Dear Friends,

Saturday is Holocaust Memorial Day. The HMD Trust suggests that we all light a candle and put it in our window at 8pm on 27th January to remember those who were murdered for who they were and to stand against prejudice today. Bishop Declan Lang, Chair of the Bishop’s Conference’s International Affairs department, urges us to reflect on those who lost their lives in the Holocaust and pray for those who work tirelessly to promote and protect freedom around the world. He said: “On Holocaust Memorial Day, we remember the six million people who were murdered and all those who have suffered in the genocides that followed. The theme this year is “Fragility of Freedom.” It reminds us of the slow and subtle erosion of freedoms that creates the circumstances that allow genocide to take place. It also urges us not to take our freedoms for granted, and to be mindful of our own responsibility in defending and strengthening freedoms in our communities.”

If of interest at the Marylebone Theatre (formerly the Steiner theatre) you can see The Most Precious of Goods with Samantha Spiro and Gemma Rosefield. https://www.mostpreciousgoods.com/

On a lighter note, in a private audience with Italian wine producers this month, Pope Francis declared that “Wine, land, agricultural skills and entrepreneurialism are gifts from God – the creator has entrusted them to us because, with our sensitivity and honesty, we make them a true source of joy.” How right he is! Cin Cin!

God bless, Monsignor Phelim

PS. Nobody has claimed the glasses yet!  We have them in the office. We also have a large beige leather backpack here. One of you must be missing it surely?
